Hope for those with MS: Find, Stop, Cure.

Multiple Sclerosis affects over 400,000 individuals in the US and as many as 2 million people worldwide.

The Multiple Sclerosis Research Institute (“MSRI”) foundation brings real hope and help to those affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Dr. Greenstein created a not-for-profit foundation, the Multiple Sclerosis Research Institute to Find, Stop and Cure MS.

These three terms represent what he believes we can discover through his research:

Find: Find the cause of MS by determining why specific immune cells called regulatory T cells are not doing their job and, therefore, allow other types of immune cells to damage myelin in the brain and spinal cord.

Stop: Until there is a cure, we need to stop the progression of the disease. To reduce risk of treatment with Tysabri, we have developed the basis to identify patients who might be at increased risk for PML (a dangerous infection). Monitoring risk factors will tell us when to switch to another treatment before PML occurs.

Cure: Intercepting the cause will result in a cure.

The MSRI is well-positioned to focus sharply on research and education in MS, unencumbered by the multiple academic or commercial demands of either universities or industrial enterprises. The flexibility of this stand-alone foundation allows for rapid change to adapt to the needs of the field.
